You looked at me sweetly and smiled and asked me if we could hold hands. I remember watching the sunrise on the beach with you that summer morning, my hand in yours. You left a few days after that. You lived in Los Angeles, and I in London. Surely it was never going to work. We barely knew each other, but your hand that morning felt so right in mine. We wrote each other long letters, and stayed up for hours on the phone even the ten hours difference didn’t stop us. You then came to visit me in Malaysia where I was living at the time. It was sunset, and we were on an island just after rainy season. It was just us. You handed me a letter that you wrote to God when you were fifteen. All I saw in the letter were the words, “God please prepare my heart to be a worthy man for the woman I choose to marry”. You got down on your knee and asked me to be your wife.
The day I married you, I had no idea what was ahead of us. We didn’t have a plan.
Today is your birthday and I want to thank you for asking me to hold your hand that first day. I thank God every day for giving you to me. I had no idea in all my life that marriage was going to be this insanely incredible. I am so head over heels madly in love with you. You are perfect in every way and I am so thankful that we get to spend this entire life journey together holding hands and never letting go. Thank you for making my life so complete in every possible way. Happy Birthday my love….
